The December 3rd Assembly had a full agenda! To start it off we had a graduate student labor panel with representatives from GAAC (the UMD graduate student meet and confer body) and Fearless Student Employees. The GSG VPGA also served on the panel. This led to a very engaging conversations with representatives discussing the current Maryland state law and efforts to gain the right to consider collective bargaining in the future. This panel was present to help provide information prior to having assembly members vote upon a resolution in favor of changing MD law to give the right back to graduate students to decide if and how they may want to proceed. The resolution passed.Â
A second resolution passed that stated formal support of graduate student provisions present in the current Higher Education Reauthorization bill.Â
Thirdly, the assembly passed a new Act that will be added to the bylaws to help clarify part of the event funding request process.
